Last year firefighters made 4,449 interventions, of which 500 were in homes and public places

The Consortium for the Extinction of Fire and Rescue of the Region of Murcia (CEIS) launches an information campaign to prevent fires in homes.

Caravaca de la Cruz will be one of the municipalities, along with Cieza, Yecla and Jumilla, where the first phase of this citizen campaign will be held, with which it is hoped to reach more than a thousand people through talks.

The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, and the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies of the Autonomous Community, José Ramón Carrasco, visited the facilities of the local fire station, where the chief sergeant, Alfonso García, has advanced some of the tips and recommendations that will be presented in these talks.

"From the City of Caravaca de la Cruz appreciate the preventive work of the Fire Department, since at this time, before the imminent temperature drop, it is important to always keep this pattern of behavior patterns and be cautious with the use of electric heat systems, "said the mayor.

For its part, the general director of Citizen Security and Emergencies of the Autonomous Community has indicated that during the past year CEIS firefighters made a total of 4,459 interventions, of which 500 were in homes, buildings or public premises, so that The objective of this campaign is to transfer to the public, through lectures and demonstrations, basic knowledge for fire prevention and advice on how to act in the event that they occur.

The chief sergeant of the Caravaca firefighters has stressed the need to continue training the population, especially those most likely to be victims of fires in homes, such as the group of elderly people, urging caution in the use of candles, stoves and braziers, as well as in regard to electrical installations (overloaded plugs or defective wiring, among others), main causes of fire in homes.

He has also emphasized the benefits of installing smoke detectors at home, because they have a low economic cost and are capable of saving lives.
