The Northwest Road Conservation Center, located in the Santa Inés polygon of Caravaca, has hosted the presentation of the Autonomic Winter Road Plan 2018, designed to combat possible traffic problems caused by snow and ice storms on the roads regional and, mainly, in the circulation routes of the Northwest and Altiplano.
The mayor of Caravaca, José Moreno, thanked the presence of the Minister of Development and Infrastructure of the Autonomous Community, Patricio Valverde, to report the measures contained in the aforementioned plan, as "this preventive device is very important for Caravaca de la Cruz and other municipalities of Comarca del Noroeste, as was demonstrated in January 2017, when we had to deal with numerous incidents caused by heavy snowfall thanks to the human and technical resources that had been prepared. "
For his part, the Minister of Development and Infrastructure has announced that this year's operation is made up of 25 vehicles and 21 troops, who will work daily to ensure safety in the regional road network during the winter season.
If the weather alert is activated, the number of workers would increase to 80.
Also, there are prepared 220 tons of salt and 50,000 liters of brine to combat the possible discomfort that may cause the snow and frost on regional roads.
Patricio Valverde highlighted the importance of precaution and prevention of these phenomena, indicating that the operation also contemplates preventive treatments in low temperature situations to avoid the formation of ice sheets.
This operation may include the Civil Protection, Fire and Local Police, as well as their vehicles and material means.
Among them, a Vamtac (Vehicle of High Mobility Tactics) and an SUV of the Consortium of Fire Fighting and Rescue of the Community (CEIS), with snow shovel in the form of a wedge for the removal of snow.
The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure has purchased for this year's campaign a brine manufacturing plant that has a storage of 5,200 liters and can produce more than 6,000 liters per hour by having two pumps capable of continuous operation.
One of the great advantages of this new machine is its easy transfer.
Roads more affected by snowfall
The roads of the Northwest are more likely to accumulate significant amounts of snow, and even register frosts, are the RM-702 (Barranda-Nerpio), RM-703 (Moratalla-Campo de San Juan), RM-B23 (RM-730 a Cañada de la Cruz) and RM-B24 (RM-730 to El Hornico).
All of them have sections at an altitude higher than 1,200 meters in the towns of Caravaca de la Cruz and Moratalla.
These are followed by RM-504 (La Paca-Doña Inés), RM-711 (La Puebla de Mula-El Niño de Mula), RM-730 (Caravaca-Puebla de Don Fadrique), RM-B30 (Mazuza-Boundary) of Region), RM-C16 (Sale Cavila-Singla), RM-C17 (Singla-Barranda) and RM-C18 (RM-711-Los Royos).
