The mayor Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, will keep tomorrow, Wednesday, a meeting with the head of the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities, Violante Tomás, and with the people in charge of the Foundation 'Arcos del Castillo', to deal with the situation of unaccompanied foreign minors who are temporarily accommodated in the Hotel El Llano of this town, owned by the Consortium of Vía Verdes of the Region of Murcia.
In line with this issue, the mayor will request the transfer of these children to a reception center, since the aforementioned tourist facility does not meet the appropriate conditions for this purpose and this situation was raised as a provisional measure, for three months, that has been extended over time.
Minors who stay at Hotel El Llano are supervised by the Autonomous Community, within the care program known technically as MENAS (Unaccompanied Foreign Minors).
The City of Caravaca de la Cruz, which has no competence in this matter, was aware of this situation last April, without previously communicating through official channels.
In the various meetings held with those responsible for the aforementioned Ministry and the Foundation 'Arcos del Castillo', which manages this program, it was ensured that it was a temporary situation, so both the Consistory and the neighbors were comprehensive with the same for humanitarian reasons.
In addition, the mayor of Caravaca has requested that this issue be addressed as an urgent matter in the Governing Board of the Consortium of the Greenways of the Region of Murcia, which will be held next Thursday, December 20.
