The painter Santiago Ydáñez will exhibit at the Compañía de Jesús de Caravaca (04/03/2019)

The exhibition, coordinated by the T20 gallery, includes twenty pieces of religious sculpture from Ydáñez's private collection

'Deus ex machina' is the title of the exhibition of the artist Santiago Ydáñez that will house the hall of the Company of Jesus of Caravaca de la Cruz, from the middle of next March until the end of June.

The sample, supported by the City of Caravaca de la Cruz and by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Autonomous Community, has been presented by the mayor, José Moreno;

the general director of Cultural Goods, Juan Antonio Lorca, and the gallery owner of T20, Nacho Ruiz.

"The convenience of this exhibition is reinforced by the existence in the hall of the great painting San Juan de la Cruz that the artist executed for the exhibition 'Mystics' and which was permanently there by donation of the artist," said the mayor .

This piece is the axis of a project of great ambition that brings together the best of Ydáñez's recent production.

They are series in which the paintings of Caravaggio and Ribera take on a different and amplified meaning on canvases of enormous sizes.

They also incorporate a selection of twenty pieces from the artist's private collection of religious sculpture, with works of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque style, dated between the fourteenth and eighteenth centuries.

"This is an exhibition in which space interacts intensely with the painting and the exposed sculpture, and we must bear in mind that the artist has been a fellow of the Academy of Spain in Rome and has worked on the guide of the Italian painters of the XVII ", according to Nacho Ruiz, who was already in front of 'Signum' and 'Mystics', two other large exhibitions held in the hall of the Society of Jesus.

Santiago Ydáñez studied Fine Arts at the University of Granada and has conducted workshops, among others, with Juan Genovés, Alfonso Albacete, Nacho Criado, Fernando Castro Flórez and Mitsuo Miura.

He has received important distinctions and is currently one of the Spanish painters with the greatest international projection.

He obtained, among others, the ABC Painting Prize in 2002 and the Generation Painting Prize 2002 from Caja Madrid, the Scholarship of the School of Spain in Paris from the Ministry of Culture in 2001 and the Marcelino Botín Foundation Scholarship in 1998.

Santiago Ydáñez currently lives and works between Berlin and Granada.

His work is based on observation, inspired by childhood memories that merge with his cultural concerns, his love of art history and literature.

The work of Santiago Ydáñez addresses five main themes that he interprets and represents indistinctly.

The human condition represented through the face, animals, nature, religious desacralization and a last line of work influenced by its passage through Berlin, the aesthetic investigation of historical records.
