The University of Murcia offers a talk on approaches and new perspectives of the History of Spain and America (13/03/2019)

'The present and the past.

The construction of images in preterit 'is the title of the conference organized by the Faculty of Letters of the University of Murcia, with the collaboration of the Department of Culture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, which will take place this Friday, March 15 , at 18.30, at the House of Culture 'Emilio Sáez'.

The coordinators, Alba Giménez Sánchez and Mª Pilar López Martínez, explained that this "activity seeks the public interested in History, providing new perspectives and approaches." The conference aims to present those aspects that help to understand how our present is based and how it is not it can be constituted without a previous past ".

"Hand in hand with two specialized professionals from the University of Murcia, offers the opportunity to develop new dialogues and approaches of a story that is as familiar as, surprisingly, alien: the History of Spain and America," they add.

The conference will be divided into two parts' The images of Spain of the second century BC.

to the nineteenth century ', by José Javier Ruiz Ibáñez, specialist in Political History in the early Modern Age and in the projection of the Hispanic Monarchy beyond its borders.

Ruiz Ibáñez has been a professor at the University of Murcia since 1998, as well as having been a visiting professor at several French universities and at the Colegio de México.

He carried out his postdoctoral training at EHESS (Paris) and is founder and general coordinator of Red Columnaria since 2004, and researcher responsible for the projects 'Hispanofilia' and 'Vestigios de un mismo mundo'.

He is also the author of a dozen books and coauthor with other historians of the stature of Bernad Vincent and Robert Descimon.

He is also a member of the Mexican Academy of History.

The second part will be 'The invention of America', by the professor of the University of Murcia and formerly of the University of Huelva Magdalena Díaz Hernández.

In 2009 he made a research stay at the Institute of Historical Research of the Autonomous University of Mexico, in addition to receiving a research grant in 2010 from the Mexican government.

That same year he won the prize for the best historical essay by the University of Alcalá de Henares.

He has done various works on slavery in the Hispanic world linked to various research projects of the University of Granada.

Now, he is dedicated to the study of chime and rumor in American colonial history.
