The cover and the roofs of the Basilica of the Holy and Vera Cruz de Caravaca will be restored with a total budget of 690,000 euros, an amount that will be financed by 75% by the Ministry of Development, through the funds generated for the '1'5% Cultural', and the remaining 25% will be paid by the Caravaqueño Consistory.

The restoration project of the Baroque facade of the Basilica will have an investment of 280,516.42 euros and will repair structural damage and the stone itself.

This façade, integrated into the architectural ensemble of the Caravaca Castle, declared a National Historic-Artistic Monument, was built in the 18th century with marbles from the area, predominating jasper marble.

In her floral elements are observed, volumetric games of cornices and imposts, use of the stipes in the columnarios sets, a Real shield on the access and other elements like the shell of the Order of Santiago, in reference to its unequivocal relation with Caravaca.

In the niche that presides over the façade is a carving of the patron saint of the city, the Vera Cruz.

The cornice is curved at the top and seven pinnacles are organized.

For its part, the project to restore the roofs of the Basilica is budgeted at 409,487.38 euros and will repair the damage to roofing skirts, as well as the deterioration of the most exposed and unprotected stone elements, such as eaves, cornices and shelves. windows and holes.

Many of these elements, especially the cornices and eaves are limestone, and its degradation process has been accelerated by the lack of protection and waterproofing.
