The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz has celebrated the voting day in the four secondary schools of the municipality within the participatory budgeting process applied to the Youth area.
Since the councils of Citizen Participation and Youth have reported that this is the second year that this initiative is carried out with students from the institutes 'San Juan de la Cruz', 'Ginés Pérez Chirinos' and 'Oróspeda' and the school Nuestra Señora de la Consolation.
In this way, a total of 630 young people decide to which specific projects a municipal budget of 15,000 euros is allocated, of which at least 5,000 will be for actions linked to culture and education and a maximum of 10,000 to related projects. with other areas.
Following the model put into practice last year, the process has been guided by researchers from the University of Murcia, through a collaboration agreement signed with the Caravaqueño Consistory.
Before the voting day, informative assemblies have been held, where the concept of participatory budget has been exposed and the projects have been decided.
Once the technical validation filter has been applied according to previously established criteria, of the 91 proposals made by the students, 29 have been selected, which are the ones that finally submit to voting.
Young people can choose up to five options according to their tastes and interests.
The process will continue with the public recount of votes and with a day of rendering of accounts, in which both the municipal technicians and the University of Murcia will evaluate the whole process.
Last year a total of 782 young people voted and the proposals with the greatest support were Wifi zones, a sewing workshop, fashion and design, a photography workshop and a festival with a variety of musical styles.
Through the participatory budgets applied to the area of ​​Youth, several objectives are pursued, such as knowing and prioritizing the needs of young people to contribute to a more effective use of public resources for this group and encourage their active participation in the processes of making decisions.
