The City Council of Caravaca and Proyecto Hombre will strengthen the educational programs of addiction prevention in schools and institutes (17/09/2019)

With the aim of planning prevention actions with young people and laying the foundations for the new collaboration agreement, the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, and the Councilor for Social Services, Isabel López, have held a meeting with the president and the director of 'Proyecto Hombre', Tomás Zamora and Asunción Santos, respectively.

At the end of the meeting, the mayor valued "the social work that Proyecto Hombre has been developing in the municipality since 2010, with the development of therapeutic and family support programs."

"Caravaca de la Cruz has, together with Murcia capital, with its own headquarters for Proyecto Hombre, something that is possible thanks to the agreement with the Caravaqueño Consistory, which was a pioneer in this matter," according to the mayor.

He also pointed out that "the objective now focuses on expanding services, focusing on preventive programs in collaboration with schools and institutes, to act at an early age and directly with students and provide specific knowledge to teachers, fathers, mothers and other educational agents. These programs will include information and specific actions to work on the prevention of gambling. "

During the meeting held at the Mayor's Office, the different educational and therapeutic programs that are carried out at the headquarters of Proyecto Hombre in Caravaca de la Cruz, located in the Municipal Employment and Training Center, were evaluated.

The actions are summarized in the following lines of action: the 'Youth Program' (for ages between 15 and 25 years. Counseling and accompaniment during the treatment to the user and family members), 'Night Program' (with a flexible schedule and compatible with work, aimed at people with dependency problems, who maintain a work and family structure) and 'Family Assistance Program' (resources and strategies to face possible situations and be a supportive figure in the recovery process) and , finally, the 'Volunteer Program' (channel to collaborate in a solidary and altruistic way with the aims of Proyecto Hombre).

In 2018 Proyecto Hombre Caravaca provided services to 84 people in personal interviews;

22 started treatment, a total of 36 people were part of the night program and 7 received a therapeutic discharge.

With regard to families, 63 were attended. In the 2019 period, the number of users that have requested the services of Proyecto Hombre amounts to 40 people.
