Apcom hires 6 people with intellectual disabilities in the 'We have to talk' campaign (17/11/2016)

Zaida, José María, Mariano, José Javier, Juan and Diego have signed their first work contract with APCOM as fundraisers.

There are 6 of the 8 participants in the 'We have to talk' campaign, which APCOM launched in June, in collaboration with the La Caixa Foundation, which financed the project with 17,500 euros.

The campaign included a face-to-face training in actions to attract partners and practices for 3 months, using sensors.

The good work done by the participants and the successful results have made it possible to surpass the expected contracting objectives that initially were 4 contracts.

The director of the office of'La Caixa' of the locality, Pedro Moreno, and the manager of APCOM, José Mª Rodríguez, members of the board of directors of the Association and relatives, accompanied in the signing of these contracts the new sensors of Funds of the association.

Mª José Soria has revealed "the great work done by Apcom with the campaign 'We have to talk', which has been a resounding success thanks also to the solidarity of the caravaqueños and the neighbors of the other municipalities of the Northwest Region ".

In his speech, the president of Apcom has highlighted the importance of initiatives such as this: "With this recruitment, in addition to generating employment, we contribute to overthrow some of the prejudices that still remain in society today regarding the limits that these people may have To lead a totally normal life, and to do so from the real example of the incorporation of this collective to the labor market.

"An approach to reality that shows us that 'the greatest limitation of people with disabilities are prejudices," added Castillo.

APCOM is an Association of families of people with intellectual disabilities.

It began to function in the middle of the eighties, in order to promote services that gave continuity to the training of people with intellectual disabilities in the vacuum that existed after the school stage.

It began to function as an occupational center, to later incorporate new centers and services, both public and private.

At present, APCOM Association is the owner of two Day Centers (Mayrena Occupational Day Center and El Copo Day and Residence Center), an "Avanza" Early Care Center, a 24h Residence, a Housing
