The Gender Violence Committee meets to promote awareness-raising actions aimed at the population (06/02/2017)

The City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz has convened the Local Gender Violence Table to plan new prevention programs and analyze the statistics of cases seen in recent months by the Center for Assistance to Women Victims of Violence (CAVI), with Headquarters in the locality.

At the meeting, chaired by the Councilor for Social Services and Women, Mª José Soria, participated the head of the Unit for Coordination of Gender Violence of the Government Delegation, Isabel Barreda, as well as representatives of the Local Police, Guardia Civil Service, the Commonwealth of Social Services, educational centers, the Employment and Training Service (SEF), the Comarcal Hospital of the Northwest and the municipal departments of Education, Youth and Social Services.

"This body, which meets every six months, has as its main goal to improve coordination among all the agents involved in the fight against gender violence, in order to ensure an agile and effective response to the victims", as recalled by the Edil María José Soria, who has also made reference to another of the fundamental objectives of this table, such as the implementation of sensitization and prevention actions aimed at the population from an early age.

Last year 2016 the CAVI of Caravaca de la Cruz attended a total of 99 women from the Northwest Region, of which 39 are neighbors of Caravaca, 16 from Cehegín, 20 from Calasparra, 9 from Moratalla and 6 from Bullas.

Of the total number of women who have passed through the CAVI, 22 have the tele-assistance device 'Atempro' and 12 children have been referred to the Psychological Care Service for Minors.

The CAVI, located in the Center for Employment, Training and Equality, is attended by a multidisciplinary team formed by a social worker, a lawyer and a psychologist, who carry out individualized and group attentions to help the users to overcome the aftermath of the mistreatment, Endowing them with social skills and the necessary psychological balance.

In addition, from this center, in collaboration with the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz and the General Directorate for Women, awareness-raising workshops are held in schools and periodic meetings are held for professionals on legal and psychological aspects to take into account In cases of gender violence.
