A group of members of the Association of Users of Dogs Guide of the Valencian Community has traveled to Caravaca de la Cruz on the occasion of the Jubilee Year 2017. The pilgrims, accompanied by volunteers from the Friends of the Camino de Santiago 'Miguel Hernández' have completed the five stages of the Way of the Cross of Levante, which unites the municipalities of Orihuela and Caravaca de la Cruz.
Upon arrival in the city, they have been welcomed by the Councilor for Social Services, Sports and Health in the Consistory Caravaqueño, María José Soria, who welcomed them to the city and congratulated them for this initiative.
The president of the Association of Users of Dogs Guide to the Valencian Community, Vicente Galiana, has highlighted the facilities they have found when it comes to walking the road, with good signage, and wanted to encourage people with blindness not to stay at home and experience the experience of being a pilgrim.
With this journey, the pilgrims want to demonstrate that blindness is not an obstacle to be able to carry out many activities.
In addition, they claim to claim the rights of blind people who use guide dogs to be able to circulate with animals, which are their eyes and their safety, in means of transportation and public places.
"The purpose of the activities we organize in the association is also that society reflect on the importance that guide dogs have for their users and find less problems every day to access places of public use," explained Vicente Galiana.
