Alfonso Marín and Josefa López receive the 'Pastor of the Year' and 'Rural Women' Awards (09/10/2017)

With the delivery of the recognitions to the 'Shepherd of the Year' and 'Rural Woman', which this year fell on Alfonso Marín Sánchez and Josefa López Sánchez, was closed the second edition of the Sheep Fair Segureño and Extensive Livestock, organized by the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the Municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz.

The mayor, José Moreno, and the general director of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Aquaculture, Francisco José González, were in charge of delivering these mentions, which recognize the dedication during a lifetime to the livestock sector and its contribution to development rural of the municipality.

During the closing ceremony of the fair was also awarded the prize of the contest of recipes made with Lamb Segureño, in which participated the Association of Housewives, Consumers and Users 'Santa Elena'.

The winner, chosen by a jury composed of representatives of the Regional Office of Agrarians and innkeepers of Caravaca de la Cruz, turned out to be Fina Bayona, who collected the prize from the president of the Association of Rural Women 'Agua y Tierra', Mª Dolores Díaz.

Finally, the prizes of the school competition were also awarded on the occasion of the II Fair of Sheep Sheep and Extensive Livestock of Caravaca de la Cruz.

The best writing was presented by the student of the public school of Cañada de la Cruz, Bianca Spiridon, and the best drawing, the one of Alba López, of school 'The Santa Cruz' of Caravaca.

On this occasion, the prizewinners were the president of the National Association of Breeders of Ovino Segureño, José Puntas, and the director of the Northwest Agrarian Regional Office, Pedro Guiraó.

The councilman responsible for the area of ​​Agriculture in the city of Caravaca de la Cruz, Enrique Fuentes, explained that for three days different activities have been programmed to promote the Segureño lamb breed and other indigenous gastronomic products with a designation of origin.

Another objective of the fair has been the dissemination of livestock as a traditional activity in the municipality, making it known among schoolchildren, through guided tours.

The fair, in addition to the exhibition of the breeds Segureña, Montesina and Cabra Celtibérica, has had tastings and stands selling products of the land, among which stand out those with Denomination of Origin, such as Calasparra Rice, Bullas Wines and Cheese from Murcia.
