The Northwest municipalities ask the Community to solve the problems with the permits of burning of agricultural remains (19/10/2017)

The Town Councils of the Northwest Region request that the Directorate General of the Natural Environment, dependent on the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment of the Autonomous Community, solve the problems that are occurring with the permits for the burning of the remains of pruning of agricultural origin.

The authorization for the burning of agricultural remains depended until recent dates of the Directorate General of the Natural Environment, although instructions have been given so that now it is the municipalities that proceed to carry out this process.

The municipalities understand that, based on current regulations, local authorities do not have competence in granting these authorizations, so they have transferred this problem to the Federation of Municipalities of the Region of Murcia (FMRM).

The regional government has been informed of the FMRM to clarify this matter, while requesting that the authorization form be maintained as long as the situation is clarified.

Likewise, they have demanded that the measures and solutions to this problem be reported as soon as possible, which affects the conservation of the orchard and the natural environment of the municipalities.

The town councils are waiting for the aforementioned general direction to offer a solution in order to solve this problem, since in many plots the prunings have already been realized and they must be treated before they originate pests that damage the cultures.

"There are already many farmers who crush prunings, which also serve as fertilizer for the land, but the crushers are costly for farmers, who often have few economic resources, which is why we expect a prompt response from the Directorate General of Natural Environment that allows farmers to carry out the burnings with sufficient guarantee and administrative security, "said the councilman responsible for the areas of Agriculture and Environment in the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, Enrique Fuentes.

Regarding this matter, farmers are reminded that the mandatory report issued by environmental agents is not the final authorization.

The report on measures to prevent forest fires is for land less than 400 meters from forest land, forest, river or rambla, abandoned plot, and so on.
