During the event, his involvement in social and festive life and his professional work as a doctor for 40 years in Caravaca was highlighted

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has handed over the title of 'Adoptive Son of Caravaca de la Cruz' to Juan José Avilés de Torres, in an act held in the Hall of Plenary Session, which was chaired by the mayor, José Moreno, and has had the presence of the members of the Municipal Corporation, as well as numerous family members, colleagues and friends of the distinguished.

The mayor has read the file that has culminated with the delivery of this recognition contemplated in the municipal regulation of honors and distinctions, according to the agreement adopted unanimously in the plenary session last September.

The first mayor has highlighted the professional face Juan José Avilés, as a pediatrician for nearly 40 years in Caravaca, as well as his active and continued participation in the social and festive life of Caravaca de la Cruz, through his involvement in the Brotherhood of the Most Holy and Vera Cruz, where he has held various positions, both in his representative board and in the Commission of Celebrations and the Christian Side.

The act also counted on the interventions of the relatives of the honoree María Avilés and Miguel Hernández;

the doctor Vicente Laborda and Mariano García-Esteller, who have glossed their lives and thanked the Caravaqueño Consistory for this recognition.

The elder brother of the Brotherhood of the True Cross, Elisa Giménez-Girón, as well as numerous representatives of the festive estates and comrades of the Regional Hospital have also wanted to accompany Juan José Avilés in his appointment as 'Adoptive Son' of the city.

Juan José Avilés de Torres was born in Madrid in 1942. At just 31 years old and after four years practicing as a pediatrician in the capital of Spain, he arrived as a forensic doctor in the city of Caravaca.

Soon after, he was practicing as a pediatrician until his retirement just five years ago.

For fourteen years, he was the coordinator of the Health Center of Caravaca and hundreds of children have gone through his consultation.

His involvement in local life has been as intense as it is extensive.

In 1997 he was named 'Christian of the Year' and a year later, 1998, he received the honor of being named 'Festero del Año', being at this time Grand Master of the Order of the Templars.

From 1990 to 1992 he was president of the Christian side.

A decade later, he was secretary of the Royal and Illustrious Brotherhood of the Santísima y Vera Cruz for four years.

He also served as secretary of the Delegate Commission for the 775th Anniversary of the Apparition of the Cross and was a member of Volunteering in 2012 and secretary of the Local Executive Committee for the 2010 Jubilee Year.
