The Company of Jesus of Caravaca hosts until February 16 the exhibition 'Men and boats: the photography of the Spanish Navy' (23/01/2018)

The Company of Jesus of Caravaca de la Cruz hosts until the next February 16 the exhibition "Men and Ships: the photograph of the Spanish Navy in the Naval Museum (1850-1935)", organized by the Ministry of Defense, through Subdirección de Publicaciones y Patrimonio Cultural, in collaboration with the Department of Culture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz.

This exhibition, which brings together a collection of 65 images of the history of the Spanish Navy, has been inaugurated by the Mayor, José Moreno Medina, and the Delegate of Defense in the Region of Murcia, José Ignacio Marti Scharfhausen.

"The old church of the Jesuits reopens its doors after the magnificent exhibitions Salzillo and its school and the Renaissance in the Region of Murcia celebrated during the Jubilee Year 2017 and does so with a retrospective exhibition of draft that allows us to get closer to the history military through photography ", as the mayor has indicated.

The exhibition "Men and Ships: the photograph of the Spanish Navy in the Naval Museum (1850-1935)" offers a set of photographs, copies of the original vintage positives preserved in the Naval Museum of Madrid.

These images have been selected among the more than two hundred published in the book of the same title published by the General Subdirectorate of Documentation and Publications, within the collection dedicated to military photography, and allow to appreciate the technical and formal evolution of the Navy.

During the opening ceremony, the defense delegate explained that "the object of the exhibition is multiple: First, it is about contributing to disseminate and publicize the historical image of the Navy through photography, a technique that has In recent years, we have seen an increasing appreciation both artistic and documentary, and this exhibition also seeks to make explicit the interest of the Ministry of Defense for military photography as a historical document and, especially, for the recovery, conservation and dissemination of the rich heritage historical and artistic that represent the photographic funds dependent on the Ministry of Defense ".

The exhibition will remain open to the public until next February 16, from Monday to Friday, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.
