The City Council initiated an employment program for the enhancement of the Roman site of Archivel (28/09/2011)

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has launched a local public employment program for the consolidation and reconstruction of the remains of Cerro de la Fuente Archivel.

This project has a budget of 219,000 euros, of which 173,000 are provided by the Employment and Training Service (SEF) and the rest by the Consistory.

During the nine months, a team composed of an archaeologist, archeology four pawns, a bricklayer and three construction laborers work in the conservation of the remains and the reconstruction of the Roman castle walls of Cerro de la Fuente.

"Through this program local public employment, we start a new measure designed to alleviate unemployment and also work on improving one of the most important sites of the municipality, ADAT I century BC", as stated by Councilman Employment, Salvador Gomez, during a visit accompanied by the headman Archivel, Juan Gonzalez and municipal archaeologist, Francisco Brotons.

The head of the municipal area Job added that "for ten years, through various initiatives such as workshops, employment and labor camps, has been betting on the recovery and value of the sites of Cerro de la Fuente Archivel and La Cabezuela Barranda, where are located the only military structures of the episodes of war between Caesar and Pompey known in the peninsula. "

For its part, the municipal archaeologist, Francisco Brotons, stated that "the program, in addition to facilitating employment, is a step in the recovery effort and tourism development of the Roman castles located in the Incarnation, and Archivel Barranda" .

The work done by contract personnel depart from previous work and employment workshops in labor camps held previously.

During the next few weeks the work will focus on the clearing of vegetation, excavation manual, building structures and reconstruction of the wall.

In addition to the program in archeology, the City Council has launched the module maintenance of public spaces, with the hiring of seven unemployed people and a budget of 136,700 euros.
