The obligation to vaccinate against rabies to dogs, cats and ferrets (11/07/2013)

The City of Caravaca de la Cruz has received an order from the Departments of Agriculture and Health for the control and eradication of rabies in animals and preventing public health risks.

In this Order, include the obligation to vaccinate all dogs, cats and ferrets from human habitat.

In addition, notice of the Autonomous Community recalls that under the Law 10/1990 on the Protection and Defense of Animals Company of the Region of Murcia, dogs and cats each municipality must be counted and recorded.

The order comes after compulsory vaccination for rabies detected last June in Toledo, which has caused the alert level 1 Spain, according to the classification of the Contingency Plan for Control of Rabies in Animals in Spain .

Spain was recognized as a zone free of rabies since 1978 where, following the recommendations of the International Organization for Animal Health, routinely vaccinate the dogs and cats to a lesser extent, in the absence of legal regulations when so required in the Region of Murcia.

Rabies is a viral disease that affects several species of domestic and wild animals and can be transmitted from animals to humans, so it is considered as a zoonosis.
