The Department of Culture published the book 'Stories Caravaca', designed by the municipal archivist Francisco Fernandez (17/11/2015)

The full amount of the proceeds from the sale of the book will go to the Spanish Foundation for Leukemia

Francisco Fernandez Garcia, municipal archivist, presents this Friday, November 20th, the book 'Stories Caravaca', which is published by the Department of Culture of the City of Caravaca and whose full amount of the sale will go to the Spanish Foundation Fighting Leukaemia.

The event will take place at 20.30 at the House of Culture "Emilio Sáez".

'Historias de Caravaca' includes a total 177 articles on the history of the municipality and published in the weekly "The West", since 2009 to date.

"It represents a journey through the history of Caravaca through some of the most important events happened in the course of time, many of them little known facts about and studied," explains the author.

The publication is arranged chronologically and divided into 8 chapters, from the Middle Ages to the twentieth century, ending with a section devoted to parties and celebrations and other characters.

Notably, the book is illustrated with a large number of old photographs, mostly unknown, from various archives and collections.

The book is narrated in the form of historical chronicles, collecting events of all kinds: religious, public, political, urban, monumental, etc., thus preserving the memory of the city and making available to those concerned some of the most interesting events and unknown.

All items are updated in this edition incorporating new data and documentation.

There are also several issues in more extensive than those published over the years in the local newspaper "The West" versions.

Francisco Fernandez Garcia holds a degree in Geography and History, specializing in Medieval History.

Since 1982 he is the archivist of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, where I have combined this activity with other different, always in the cultural field, most notably the last participation in the record for the declaration of the horses came as Intangible Cultural Heritage Humanity and the museological project of the House-Museum of the Wine Horses.

Fernandez is the author of several books and articles on the history of Caravaca: "The role of our history Municipal Archives Caravaca de la Cruz." (2002), "Bulls in Caravaca" (2005), "Festivals and Celebrations of the True Cross Caravaca "(2006) and" Holidays and worship of the Blessed and Vera Cruz de Caravaca "(2009).

He has also participated in several shared publications: "Cycle caravaqueños topics for school" (1984), "Women in the Municipal Archives of Caravaca" (1993), "La Santa Vera Cruz de Caravaca texts and documents for history." Vol. 1 (2000) Vol. 2 (2003), "Murcianos to remember. Dolores Olano Michelena" (2005), "Proclamations, criers and posters of Caravaca de la Cruz" (2007) and "Graphic History of Horses Wine "(2008).
