College students 'Santa Cruz' Caravaca de la Cruz participated, along with four other centers in the Region of Murcia, in the 'Frutoteca' pilot project, which promotes the Association of Producers-Exporters of Fruits and Vegetables of the Region Murcia (Proexport).

"The 'Frutoteca' is a fun and educational space, showing the path of fruits and vegetables from the farm to the table, and its aim is that children become aware of the importance of healthy habits in the daily diet," according the Councillor for Education and Youth, Esther Poveda, who accompanied the students on this experience, along with Proexport managers and representatives of the association of parents of the center reported.

This educational activity is part of the campaign "5 a day, an international movement that promotes include at least five servings from fresh fruits and vegetables in the diet.

The initiative came in response to the worrying deterioration in the nutritional habits of the population and the significant increase in childhood obesity rates.

The 'Frutoteca' has the support of various companies of the association of fruit and vegetable producers (Campo de Lorca, KernelExport, Kettle Produce Spain, Perichan and Procomel), who finance their way through the four centers of the region.

"We showed students how to cultivate fruits and vegetables, which passes until they reach the grocery store or supermarket and why it is important to include them in your daily diet. We have the garden courtyard of the school", said the president of Proexport, Juan Marin.

Through an explanatory video, school knows the world of fruit and vegetables, their properties and health benefits.

Moreover, in a 360 ° projection, it highlights the figure of the farmer and his importance to environmental sustainability.

The World Health Organization recommends consuming at least five servings of fruit and vegetables for a healthy diet for all ages.

According to recent studies of nutrition, Spain is the third European country with more childhood obesity, since 34% of school children are overweight.
