Caravaca today has a museum dedicated to the artist José Carrilero (18/05/2010)

José Carrilero is National Sculpture Prize and Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia

The President of the Autonomous Region of Murcia, Ramón Luis Valcárcel, has opened this evening Carrilero Museum, located in what was the family mansion Muñoz Otarola and birthplace of artist José caravaqueño Carrilero.

This new exhibition space, which you can admire 90 sculptures and paintings, in addition to the network of museums operated by Jubilee Caravaca and thus become a new tourist and cultural resource for the city that celebrates the Holy Year 2010.

The opening ceremony was attended by the mayor of Caravaca, Domingo Aranda, and the Minister of Economy and Finance, Inmaculada García, together with Councillors of the City of Caravaca and many friends Carrilero.

The event was livened up by students of the Conservatory of Music in Caravaca.

The museum will be put on permanent display a complete collection of sketches, paintings, medals and sculptures donated by the artist to Caravaca de la Cruz.

The Autonomous Community and the City of Caravaca have invested over 900,000 euros in the adaptation and the mansion musealization Otarola Muñoz, become a Civil Guard barracks in the early twentieth century, transforming it into a neutral and transparent which gives the option of placing sculptures and paintings under the criteria set by Carrilero.

The building, with a floor area of 871 square meters, distributed in a basement, where the remains of the ancient vaults of the palace and smaller sized rooms on three levels higher.

On the ground floor provides access area and it is located the reception.

In the basement are enabled several rooms for the sculpture, due to the higher dimension of space and high ceilings, also on this lower level is a multipurpose hall for conferences, presentations and film projections, toilets and stores.

From the basement, naturally lit through a skylight and translucent glass walls on the facade facing the square, you can go by elevator or by stairs, three levels for the exhibition of paintings and sketches.

The exhibition halls are distinct areas of movement on the type of paving and lighting is done through electrified rails suspended from the ceiling.

The building now occupied by the museum was donated by the Autonomous Community of the City of Caravaca under an agreement signed in 2006 by President and Mayor Ramon Luis Valcárcel, Domingo Aranda.

Next to the museum, designed the plaza José Carrilero, where is located the main entrance to the museum, led a group of three monumental sculptures dedicated to the music.

Inside the museum, visitors can take a tour through the different stages that have marked the career of Joseph Carrilero through 49 sculptures, 27 paintings and drawings and 14 medals.

José Carrilero (1929, Caravaca de la Cruz) studied at the School of Ates and Crafts in Murcia, having among its professors and teachers Cantos Clemente Luis Garay.

Was pensioned by the Provincial Government of Murcia to study at the Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid and later was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for three years to study at the Academy of Rome.

In 2003 he joined the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Santa Maria de la Arrixaca of Murcia in the sculpture section.

Among the many awards he has received in his career, include the Rome Prize, National Sculpture Prize and Gold Medal of the Region of Murcia.

Prior to the inauguration of the Museo José Carrilero, and also in celebration of International Museum Day, Ramón Luis Valcárcel presided over the opening of a new hall at the Museum of Ethnic Music Barranda (Caravaca), which will host an extension of the library permanent.

The Board called Yagua is dedicated to the culture of the same name, originally from the Peruvian Amazon.

From there come the objects belonging to this indigenous group, which are outlined in three display cases that house two instruments-a ruuhuitú ruuhuitú male and female, along with various artifacts from the tribe.
