Caravaca de la Cruz promotes, through an 'Erasmus KA3' program, professional training applied to the footwear sector.
It is one of the eleven 'Erasmus KA3' projects that are underway at European level and the only one granted in Spain to an educational program, specifically, the 'Footwear and Fashion Complements' cycle.
The councilor and second deputy mayor Enrique Fuentes has participated in the work day in which they have planned the different actions aimed at Spanish and Italian footwear entrepreneurs, as well as the students of the Calzaturiero de Padua Polytechnic and the IES Ginés Pérez Chirinos.
This meeting, held at the headquarters of the Footwear Industry Association 'Calzia', was a continuation of the one held in Italy last October.
Enrique Fuentes has stressed the importance of training to have a greater number of highly qualified professionals, which will generate more jobs in the Northwest Region and respond to the quality levels of the growing international demand experienced by footwear manufactured in the Northwest Region.
He also recalled the support that the City of Caravaca de la Cruz is providing the sector, with actions such as the refurbishment of the facilities where the IES Chirinos is developing the training cycle of 'footwear and fashion accessories', which is taught in the Municipal Center for Employment and Training in a pioneering manner in the Region.
The general director of Vocational Training and Special Education Teaching, Sergio López, as well as representatives of all the organizations and institutions involved in the AppShoe program: the Regional Employment and Training Service (SEF), the Footwear and Plastic Technology Center (CETEC), Calzia, the Ginés Pérez Chirinos IES and the Cazaturiero Polytechnic Institute of Padua (Italy), among others.
The AppShoe project lasts two years and is co-financed by the European Commission through the European Social Fund (ESF).
It is a public-private collaboration program and does not imply student mobility.
In addition, its implementation will involve the promotion of educational quality, as it promotes the development of different projects with a multidisciplinary vision among different countries.
The final goal is to have new professionals trained and prepared in the latest shoe manufacturing techniques, which will result in an increase in the competitiveness of this industry.
Footwear companies in the Northwest of the Region of Murcia are highly specialized in the manufacture of jute footwear.
They are a world reference due to their excellent characteristics (comfort, high quality, respect for the environment and fashion) and there is a growing global demand that has driven internationalization.
The main objective of the AppShoe project is the implementation of a "Footwear and accessories technician" apprenticeship adapted to jute and focused on two groups: young people between 16 and 30 years old (apprentices) and SME companies that manufacture jute footwear.
The project is linked to an interregional strategy between the Italian model of Calzaturiero Polytechnic and the Northwest Region of Murcia.
The idea is to use the practices of Calzaturiero Polytechnic, where a professional qualification in Footwear Design and Manufacture is well established, adapting them to the needs of the Region of Murcia.
