The Ministry of Health has launched an initiative in all hospitals and health centers in the Region to eliminate stress in children with autism in their visit to these spaces.
The Project of intervention for the elimination of stress in the sanitary spaces for the minors with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) consists, among other actions, in the placement of pictograms or posters with descriptive drawings in all the public health centers with the objective of adapt the health environment to these patients.
Almost a year ago, from the Municipal Group of the Popular Party in the City of Caravaca de la Cruz we presented a motion for the Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministry of Family and Equal Opportunities, to regulate a protocol of action in the centers health care for people with autism spectrum disorder, as had been done in the Virgen de la Arrixaca hospital.
That request of ours did nothing but respond to the demands of many parents of children with autism in the Northwest region (represented by the associations TEAYUDA and INGLOBA).
The announcement of the Minister of Health to extend the Arrixaca's pioneering system, given its proper functioning, to all health centers in the Region is undoubtedly great news for these groups, who have often felt helpless.
Regulate and enable the necessary protocols and adequate in relation to the comprehensive assessment (biological, psychological and educational) of children and adolescents with ASD, guiding families in everything they need and demand, is one of the objectives ..
Another is to train health personnel in relation to the care that should be provided to these patients diagnosed with ASD, since one of the aspects that most concern health professionals is how these patients feel and communicate pain, especially of young age.
Most of these children have no voice and adults have to become their voice.
We consider that this is one more step of that long road to travel together without accommodating ourselves in complacency and sufficiency.
We have to be able to open doors and break down barriers, since we are all part of a diverse world where we are not all equal and where we have the need and obligation to work for equity.
People with this disorder require and deserve a special understanding of their difficulties, ethically, legally and morally, we must offer them the best possible practices.
The Regional Government has been sensitive to this need and once again it has echoed what many fathers and mothers of our Region and the Region have been requesting for some time.
