Last January, the City of Caravaca, with the sponsorship of Ecoembes, announced the start of a pilot campaign for the selective collection of waste to improve the recycling rates of light packaging.
This campaign, started in the neighborhood of Los Juncos, consisted in the distribution to all the neighbors of yellow containers that should take the street every Wednesday.
"Six months after the presentation of a good initiative, the results obtained are not known, despite the fact that in January the Councilor for the Environment said that within a month these results would be presented to extend this campaign to other neighborhoods" , the popular councilor Ana Belén Martínez has lamented. "
In this sense, Martinez has insisted that "it is essential to raise awareness among neighbors and children especially about the importance of recycling to get the data that this year have achieved Abarán and Mazarrón, awarded as the two municipalities that recycled most last year , but for this the City Council has to carry out many initiatives that are not being done ".
The popular councilor has referred to many topics to work on issues of environmental education, "that from the municipal group of the Popular Party we believe that they must be inculcated from the bottom, because children are an inexhaustible source of resources, they are the ones who can transmit the basic values ​​for a correct protection of the environment that surrounds us, becoming the future generations and those that will make the decisions in the future and for that Caravaca is a municipality with infinite possibilities ".
Ana Belén Martínez has done a review of activities that have been stopped, for facilities that are not used and, in general, the lack of initiative in environmental matters.
So he recalled that the city does not use the Nature Room of the Fountain of the Marquis, located in a unique environment and offers a huge amount of possibilities.
He also stressed that "not a single reforestation campaign has been done since Enrique Fuentes is a councilor of this City Council, with reforestation being a very didactic activity for children since it helps them to know the native species of our land and also to how plant them and monitor them, which translates into responsibility and environmental awareness on the part of the children ".
"The municipality does different activities on birds, very useful and that both children and adults like, but the environment has many other issues that if not addressed as has happened in these three years, remain forgotten. Ana Belén Martínez recalled that "in these years and thanks to our initiative, two ordinances have been approved for the protection of green spaces in our municipality, one for the use of parks and gardens and another specific for the site of the sources of the Marquis. "
The popular councilor has lamented that no seminars have been held on these ordinances, have not been released or have posted signs or signs about what can and can not be done in the spaces, "so it is impossible for the ordinance is fulfilled by the neighbors. "
Finally, Martinez has addressed the Comprehensive Plan of Animal Protection that the Popular Group took to Plenary two years ago and that was not approved because the PSOE voted against claiming that it had a better motion.
