The nuncio of His Holiness the Pope in Honduras, Bishop Novatus Rugambwa, has visited the Diocese of Cartagena these days.
Last Monday presided over the beginning of the Quinalum of the Exaltation of the True Cross in the city of Caravaca.
Archbishop Rugambwa expressed his joy and gratitude to the Bishop of Cartagena for having given him the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to Caravaca, an opportunity, he said, "longing in my heart, to be able to venerate the Most Holy and Vera Cruz de Caravaca, whose cult and devotion it extends, as you know, not only in Spain, but in large areas of Latin America.
This is what I have seen especially in Honduras, where I have the good fortune to represent Pope Francis. "
On the first day of the Quinary in preparation for the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, Archbishop Rugambwa reminded those present that the cross - until the death of Christ, an instrument of torture - became "a source of life, of forgiveness , of mercy, sign of reconciliation and peace ".
He stressed that the Church invites believers to "proudly lift up the glorious Cross" to demonstrate the love of "Crucified for all men";
and to thank God because "from a tree that bears death, life has risen again", it shows "how much God has loved us".
He encouraged the caravaqueños not to be discouraged but to live in the message of hope of the Holy Cross: "the first vocation of the Shrine and of this city is to be a place of encounter with God in prayer, and a place of fraternal service, especially by welcoming the sick, the poor and all those who suffer.
In this place the mercy of God is revealed. "
Archbishop Novatus Rugambwa also thanked the former sister of the Vera Cruz Brotherhood, Elisa Giménez-Girón, who sent him a replica of the patron saint of Caravaca in April, who now chairs the Pontiff's Hall. in the Apostolic Nunciature of Tegucigalpa.
