The Community of Irrigators of Eyes of Archivel, formed by 267 comuneros, will count at the end of the year with a reservoir of 175,000 cubic meters, thanks to an investment of 633,000 euros, which will allow a better use of water resources.
The president of the community of irrigators, Pedro Melgares, has shown the progress of the works to the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Autonomous Community, Miguel Ángel del Amor, and the councilor for Agriculture, Environment, Urbanism and Works of the City council of Caravaca, Enrique Sources.
Melgares thanked the support received to defray the cost of this infrastructure, financed 55% by the irrigators themselves and the remaining 45% by the Autonomous Community, within the line of modernization aid for irrigation of the Rural Development Plan.
He also thanked the Caravaqueño Consistory for its collaboration so that this project could be a reality, with the exchange of a public road and the completion of procedures aimed at facilitating the work.
"With this action we achieve the dual objective of optimizing water resources and energy sources, as we have opted for photovoltaics."
Councilman Enrique Fuentes has said that the community of irrigators of the Ojos de Archivel "is one of the most important in the municipality of Caravaca, with more than 300 hectares of irrigated land, so this infrastructure is very necessary to accumulate water during the winter and be able to dispose of it at times of the year that are most needed ".
On the other hand, Miguel Ángel del Amor has informed that this work will allow to have the necessary flow for the crops, supplying the water, without consumption of conventional energy, to two quarters of the lands of the community, halving the energy consumption in the operation of the system.
In addition, a solar photovoltaic installation will be carried out to generate green energy for the pumping equipment.
With this raft, the irrigators of Archivel will have a storage volume greater than 15 percent of their concession, giving a greater guarantee of supply.
During construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of the year, all inlet and outlet connections will be included with the current irrigation system, providing the reservoir with a floating intake and adopting the corresponding safety measures as a drainage system for control. of possible leaks.
Also, two electromagnetic meters will be placed to control the water emanating at birth and return to the channel in winter.
