The Estrecho de La Encarnación Historical Site hosted the presentation of the first edition 'Assota Trail', a sporting event that bears the name of one of the Ibero-Roman towns that were located in this important enclave of the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz.
The event will be held on March 17 next year, with a thousand hikers and runners, conjugating sports, history, solidarity and party, from the respect for the environment.
This mountain race, made up of several types of participation and open to different age groups, is organized by the Trail Running Club 'Las Cabras tiran al monte' and the residents of the hamlet of La Encarnación, with the backing of the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz and various sponsoring firms.
The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, who participated in the presentation of the event, along with the Councilor for Sports, María José Soria, highlighted "the high commitment that the municipality has with sport, as evidenced by sports events of high level that we lodge throughout the year ".
"This competition, which is born with a solidarity and continuity vocation, will be held in an absolutely privileged environment and is a way to value our history and archaeological heritage," said José Moreno.
The president of the Running Trail Club "Las Cabras throw to the mountain", Miguel Martínez, made a review of the technical characteristics of the test, which will consist of two routes of 22 and 32 kilometers, with various modes of participation.
"Thanks to the collaboration provided by owners of private farms, we will have the opportunity to enjoy places located at the pass of the Sierra de las Cabras, Torre Junquera, Río Quípar and the Historic Sites Estrecho de la Encarnación, among other natural and historical areas of great value, "said Miguel Martínez, who was accompanied by Tomás de la Cerda, representing the collective of residents of La Encarnación who have been involved in the organization of the event.
Luis Alberto Ríos, president of the Mountaineering Federation of the Region of Murcia, was also part of the presentation ceremony for 'Assota Trail', since the competition will be integrated into the regional league of mountain races.
'Assota Trail' is held non-profit and the benefits will go to the '' Adaptaocio 'program of the Association for the Attention to Diversity' Adinor 'and the City of Caravaca de la Cruz and Cehegín, which facilitates the Leisure during weekends and holidays to people with intellectual disabilities.
