A book delves into the contribution of the Animeros de Caravaca for the revitalization of music from the oral tradition of southeastern Spain (14/01/2019)

The Department of Culture of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz has collaborated with the publisher 'Gollarín' in the edition of the book 'Los animeros de Caravaca.

Musical tradition and revitalization in the cuadrillas of the Spanish southeast ', whose presentation will take place on Friday, January 25, at 8:00 pm, at the House of Culture' Emilio Sáez '.

"It is a rigorous musicological and social work, based on the doctoral thesis of Professor Julio Guillén Navarro, which deserves for its anthropological relevance to be published for its conservation between present and future generations," as the Councilor for Culture has advanced, Óscar Martínez, who will participate in the presentation of the book, along with its author, the editor of 'Gollarín', Francisco Marín, and Juan Montiel Vila, representing the Animeros.

The 'Animeros de Caravaca' are the survival of the old Brotherhood of Souls that already existed in the sixteenth century and was recovered in 1976 after several decades of inactivity.

From an approach that combines the social with the musical, it analyzes the importance of this group in all of the southeast of Spain, since, according to the author, "it treasures a musical heritage, both material and immaterial, that can be traced back to the seventeenth century. XVIII, apart from the great value that oral tradition has as a mode of transmission ".

On the other hand, the Animeros of Caravaca de la Cruz were the first collective of the gangs of all the peninsular southeast to undergo a process of revitalization of their ritual.

From the editorial 'Gollarín' hope that this work is an important step forward in the study of this type of demonstrations that are so relevant to the cultural heritage of the area that includes territories of Murcia, Albacete, Granada, Almeria and Jaén.

Julio Guillén Navarro (Albacete, 1982) is a professor of Secondary Education, musician and ethnomusicologist.

In his adolescence, seeing himself captivated by the cuadrillas of the southeast, he learned to play different guitars and guitars.

After finishing his studies in History and Music Sciences, he decided to dedicate his doctoral thesis to the Animeros de Caravaca (University of Valladolid, 2012).

He has made several publications in relation to the traditional music of La Mancha and southeastern Spain.

In addition to the presentation scheduled for Friday, January 25 at the House of Culture of Caravaca, the book will also be presented in the hamlet of Barranda on Saturday, January 26, at 4.30 pm, at the CEIP 'Virgen de la Candelaria' de Barranda, within the program of events of the 41st edition of the Fiesta de las Cuadrillas'.
