The Regional Hospital of the Northwest, that pays attention to the neighbors of area IV of the Murcian Health Service, has put in operation the new operating rooms.

The project, financed with one and a half million euros by the Ministry of Health, has consisted in the expansion of the surgical area, with the construction of two new operating rooms and the reform of the four existing.

The mayor Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, has shown his satisfaction for this improvement in the Hospital, but has also claimed a greater staffing in some areas of hospital services.

"The means are important, but it is also necessary to increase the staff to properly attend to patients who arrive here throughout the region, as there are gaps in emergency services and also in some specialties such as Cardiology or Hematology," he said. .

The mayor has accompanied the president of the Autonomous Community, Fernando López-Miras, and the Minister of Health, José Manuel Villegas, at the inauguration of the new operating rooms and a day center for the care of patients with cancer treatment.

The construction of the two new operating theaters allows for an increase of around 15% in attendances, which will mean an additional 300 operations per year and the hiring of eleven doctors, who come to strengthen the medical and health personnel of the surgical area.

In the four operating rooms that were already in operation, the improvements were mainly focused on air conditioning and sealing, which benefits the environmental conditions and represents an advance in the energy efficiency measures of the surgical area.

The hospital of the Northwest is the center of reference for the municipalities of Caravaca de la Cruz, Bullas, Calasparra, Cehegín and Moratalla, and provides assistance to a population of 70,000 inhabitants.

Each year it serves an average of 130,000 consultations, 43,000 emergencies, 4,700 admissions and 4,300 surgeries.
