The neighbors of Caravaca de la Cruz donated a total of 83,356 kilograms of clothing, toys and footwear last year 2018, thus preventing them from going to landfill and becoming waste, according to data provided by the Abraham Project association.
In this way, a second useful life is achieved for these possible residues and it contributes to generate employment among people in situation or risk of social exclusion.
The Department of Social Services of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz maintains a collaboration agreement with the non-profit entity, whereby a total of 38 containers remain installed on public roads.
In addition, Proyecto Abraham has opened a store on Calle Juan Carlos I, where, after a recycling process, a portion of the donated clothing is offered for sale at very affordable prices so that any segment of the population can have access to clothing regardless of their purchasing power.
Project Abraham is a non-profit association, which focuses its activity on the field of socio-labor insertion with the implementation of training, social and occupational programs.
A good part of the workers who collect garment containers and other tasks of the association are people at risk of social and labor exclusion, thus obtaining an opportunity for integration through work.
Proyecto Abraham is self-financing of the activity of collection and management of used clothing, footwear and toys and has the collaboration of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz and other Murcia public administrations with which it has agreements for container placement actions, wardrobe, food distribution, shelter, school and family support and training.
