The Camino de la Cruz Foundation, headed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, will invest 260,000 euros in the rehabilitation of the historic heritage of Caravaca de la Cruz.

Specifically, the actions include the repair of the facade of the Monastery of Santa Clara and the restoration of the east, south and north façade of the parish of El Salvador.

"These are strategic actions due to the importance of each of these resources," said the Minister of Tourism and Culture, Miriam Guardiola, as president of the board.

The two actions are funded by the contributions of several patrons of the Foundation, ElPozo SA, Dessert and Dulces Reina, SL, Limcamar SL, Café Salzillo and the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia.

In the case of the Santa Clara monastery, which has been more than 100,000 visitors since 2017, an investment of 60,000 euros will be made and an area of ​​349.12 square meters will be restored corresponding to the street façade of Las Nuns

The investment for the north, south and east façade of the Parish Church of El Salvador will amount to 200,000 euros and will address cleaning, consolidation and protection of the stone as well as specific interventions in the "harpy" and in the figures of the corner, cornices, window moldings, as well as on the inscription tombstone.

This church, of Cultural Interest, is one of the most important and emblematic columnists of the Spanish Renaissance of the Region of Murcia, is located in the nerve center of the municipality and is the last point of sealing before reaching the Sanctuary of the Most Holy and Vera Cruz.

The investments have been possible thanks to the request by amendment to the General State Budgets of the creation of a new event of exceptional public interest, the 'Camino de la Cruz de Caravaca', valid between September 1, 2018 and the August 31, 2019.

After the celebration of the Jubilee Year in 2017, one of the objectives of the employers, through the Camino de la Cruz de Caravaca Foundation, and the regional government, is the consolidation of the Holy City of Caravaca de la Cruz as a destination for permanent religious tourism at the regional, national and international levels.
