Caravaca will have 260,000 euros for the restoration of the facades of the parish of El Salvador and the monastery of Santa Clara (07/02/2019)

The mayor has advanced the commitment of the Ministry of Finance to include in the general budgets of the State the extension of tax incentives until 2021

Caravaca de la Cruz will benefit from two actions in the area of heritage recovery, with the implementation of rehabilitation projects for the façades of the convent of San Clara and the parish church of El Salvador.

These projects will have a global budget of 260,000 euros, assumed by the Camino de la Cruz Foundation.

Specifically, the patrons who finance these two actions are the Desserts and Sweets Queen, Limcamar, Salzillo Coffee, Fuertes Group and the Tourism Institute of the Region of Murcia.

"After the Jubilee Year 2017, in which the foundation mainly focused its efforts on tourism promotion and the development of events, it was important that during the interjubileral periods the investments were aimed at maintaining and recovering the historical heritage of Caravaca de la Cruz ", as pointed out by the mayor, José Moreno, during the presentation of the projects, which also involved the Minister of Tourism and Culture of the regional government, Miriam Guardiola;

the episcopal vicar and parish priest of El Salvador, Jesús Aguilar;

the president of the group Desserts Queen, Alfonso Lopez, and the community of Clarisas de Caravaca, among others.

José Moreno has advanced the commitment of the Ministry of Finance to include in the next General State Budgets the expansion of tax incentives until the year 2021, "which would allow the foundation to maintain its strong commitment to Caravaca de la Cruz beyond the period that is currently established. "

In the case of the Santa Clara monastery, an area of 350 square meters will be restored.

This historic building dates from the seventeenth century, a time of austerity in monastic buildings.

The façade -of two sections and topped with a triangular pediment with a cross- is one of its most outstanding elements, made with masonry and nailed door from 1876.

The investment for the north, south and east façade of the Parish Church of El Salvador will amount to 200,000 euros and will address cleaning, consolidation and protection of the stone, as well as specific interventions in the "harpy" and cornices, window moldings and in the inscription tombstone.

This church, Bien de Interés Cultural (BIC), is one of the most important and emblematic columnists of the Spanish Renaissance in the Region of Murcia.

It is located in the neuralgic center of the municipality and it is the last point of sealing for the pilgrims before the arrival to the Real Basilica of the of the Santísima and Vera Cruz.

These investments have been possible thanks to the reflection in the General State Budgets of the new event of exceptional public interest, the 'Camino de la Cruz de Caravaca'.
