The Councilor for Social Services in the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, María José Soria, has presented, together with representatives of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), services and workshops that the association starts up in the municipality.
Among them is the free service of psychological and social care and the workshop 'Body and emotional expression'.
"We are very pleased to be able to collaborate with the Spanish Association against Cancer, with the assignment of municipal spaces for the development of activities and decentralize and bring this important work to the residents of Caravaca and the entire Northwest Region", highlighted Soria , accompanied by the representatives of the local delegations of the AECC in Caravaca de la Cruz, Blas González, and in Cehegín, Isidro de la Ossa.
Likewise, the psycho-oncologist and the social worker of the association, Sonia Abellán and Lida Valero, respectively, participated.
One of the initiatives presented is the workshop 'Body and emotional expression', which will start on February 18 and will be held from 10.30 to 12.30, over eight sessions at the Caravaca Youth Center.
The beneficiaries are people diagnosed with cancer and is focused on fostering creativity and personal skills such as self-esteem, managing anxiety or stress.
The objective of this free workshop is to know oneself and to know one's own emotions and all this using different tools, such as games, music, relaxation, theater and corporal expression, which will be directed by the one entitled in Dramatic Art and Musical Interpretation Isabel Espín.
The places are limited and the inscriptions are formalized through the telephone number 968 28 45 88.
As for the psychological and social care service, it is intended for patients diagnosed with cancer and their relatives living in the municipalities of Caravaca, Cehegín, Bullas, Calasparra and Moratalla.
It is provided free of charge every Monday at the Youth Center, by appointment at 968 28 45 88.
"A diagnosis of cancer is an important emotional impact for both patients and their families, reactions of fear, uncertainty, disbelief, anger or sadness are part of the normal emotional process and vary their intensity throughout the disease" , as pointed out by the psycho-oncologist Sonia Abellán.
When the intensity of the emotions is excessive and produces great discomfort or suffering in the patient and family, or when maladaptive reactions or psychopathological disorders appear, professional intervention is advisable.
On the other hand, an oncological process also involves changes at the couple, family, social and work levels.
These changes can produce imbalances that require specific support.
In this sense, the social worker Lidia Valero has explained that the free psychological care service is, for its consolidation and trajectory, one of the most significant of the AECC: "It is an important component of the care that the entity offers to cancer patients and their relatives, through which they can be heard and understood, and develop resources that allow them to face new and complex situations that arise after the diagnosis, "he said.
The AECC leads the effort of Spanish society to reduce the impact caused by cancer and improve the lives of people.
