The Plenary Session of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz once again showed its unanimous rejection of any manifestation of sexist violence and demanded that all the measures contained in the National Pact against Gender Violence be reinforced and implemented.
The motion, presented by the Municipal Socialist Group and approved unanimously, expresses opposition to any political position that diminishes the protection measures for women against this type of violence and is committed to strengthening the action of local administrations in the fight against the sexist violence and in the protection and attention to the victims.
In this sense the council of Social Services, María José Soria, recalled that the National Pact against Gender Violence has already allowed the extension of the Center for Attention to Women Victims of Violence (CAVI) and that the City of Caravaca receives a grant of just over five thousand euros to strengthen prevention programs.
"With 976 deaths and 150,000 complaints since we have data records, we can not take a step back in the fight against this social scourge," said Soria.
Another of the points approved in the last plenary session was the motion presented by the Municipal Citizens Group to provide a definitive solution to the situation of the Caravaca Sports Center (CDC) and to agree on the creation of a Municipal Sports Plan in which a non-electoralist strategy is outlined and with a view to the future for the entire local sports infrastructure.
The motion was approved with the votes in favor of the councilors of the Cs and PP and the abstention of IU and PSOE.
About the situation of the CDC, the Councilor for Sports, María José Soria, explained that the City Council and the concessionaire are working hand in hand to continue providing this service as normal as before, studying a series of corrective measures.
"The current contract has 15 years left and rescind it would be a high cost to the municipal coffers," he said, while indicating that users are currently being subsidized for the aquatic activity in the indoor pool and other future measures are studied related to the maintenance of the soccer field 7 and opening hours, among others.
Finally, the House addressed another motion presented by the Municipal People's Group to apply a reduction in the receipt of water to large families, a point that was finally rejected with the votes against the PSOE and IU.
The spokesman of the government team, Enrique Fuentes, justified the vote against the refusal to modify "the shortcomings and shortcomings of the text presented, as it seems fair that, in addition to the number of children, the income indicators are taken into account , as well as the incidence that this bonus may have in the Adjustment Plan ".
Also, Fuentes recalled that currently some 50,000 euros are allocated from the municipal budget to reduce the water bill to pensioners and people with disabilities with lower incomes than the minimum interprofessional salary.
