The National Association of Sheep Breeders Segureño (ANCOS) has held a working meeting to promote the training plans in the School of Pastors of Archivel.
The meeting was attended by the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Moreno, and the Minister of Water, Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Autonomous Community, Miguel Ángel del Amor, with the councilor of Agriculture, Livestock and Environment, Enrique Fuentes, and representatives of the sector.
The mayor has indicated the need to increase aid to the extensive livestock sector and provide content to the School of Pastors as a clear commitment to training.
From ANCOS we work on a strategic plan that has as key points the dignification of the profession, the collection of information, the enhancement of products and training to have skilled labor.
"Extensive livestock has to have a backing from all administrations, it is a sector that meets all the environmental objectives set by the European Union, betting on biodiversity, the fight against climate change and the determination of the rural population ", stressed the president ANCOS, José Puntas.
The School of Pastors was built in 2015 in the old schools of the village of Archivel, with a financing of 160,000 euros from the European agricultural funds rural development Feader.
The building has an administrative part, which is also the headquarters of the association that brings together the segureño sheep breeders of the Region where the different aids are managed, and with a training room.
Among the objectives of the School of Pastors, an initiative that works successfully in other places such as Andalusia, the Canary Islands and the Basque Country, is to professionalize the shepherd office to achieve greater sustainability of the sector and generate jobs.
