The City of Caravaca de la Cruz, through its councils of Celebrations and Environment and in collaboration with the company Ecovas, has launched an initiative to reduce the consumption of plastic cups during the celebration of the festivities.
In the seven bars tendered by the Consistory reusable glasses will be dispensed, as well as in an informative point that will be rotating in its location.
"This is a new system in Caravaca, but it already works successfully in other festivals, festivals or events with large concentrations of people", as pointed out by the mayor of Festejos, Óscar Martínez, who hopes that this initiative will be well welcome and extend in the coming years.
For its part, the councilor responsible for Environment, Enrique Fuentes, said that "in this way we get more environmentally sustainable parties and we anticipate future regulations that will prohibit plastics for single use in containers and dishes."
The vessels are acquired through a loan system at the price of one euro at the distribution point authorized for that purpose by the said company or in any of the seven bars with a public license;
they are used as many times as you want and they are returned recovering the money.
One of the main objectives of implementing the use of the reusable glass in the popular festivals is to promote good practices in the field of waste prevention, reducing the consumption of plastic and contributing to a cleaner city.
In total, 15,000 glasses illustrated with allegorical characters have been made to the Fiestas de la Cruz and with the social media label #FiestasDeCaravaca that is used to participate in the seventh edition of the photo contest on Instagram.
The bars tendered by the City Council are located on April 30 and May 1 in the Plaza del Hoyo;
on May 2 in Corredera, Rafael Tejero, Plaza del Hoyo and Castillo and on May 3 and 4 in Salones Castillo de la Cruz.
