The Institute of Development (INFO) of the Region of Murcia has granted 84 grants to companies in Caravaca de la Cruz, which in the past four years translates into two million euros for investments approaching six million and 156 new jobs, as reported by the director of the aforementioned regional entity, Joaquín Gómez, during the visit made with the mayor, José Francisco García, and the president of the Footwear Industries Association 'Calzia', Juan Romero, caravaqueña Maypol company .
The mayor thanked the INFO's support to the local business fabric, "with answers to their real needs to maintain employment, create new jobs and generate economic development."
He also highlighted "the excellent and fruitful public-private collaboration carried out by INFO and the Calzia association, since 75% of these aids belong to the footwear sector and the rest correspond to tourism and food".
For his part, the director of INFO has underlined the commitment of the regional government to support internationalization and innovation and ensure the maximum efficiency of public resources.
The footwear sector is made up of 198 companies, of which 163 manufacture shoes, sneakers, sports shoes and sandals.
The rest, 35, is dedicated to producing components;
leathers, soles, insteps, insoles, heels, cork wedges, etc.
It is characterized for being a traditional sector of the regional industry concentrated in Lorca, Alhama, Caravaca de la Cruz and Yecla, mainly.
There has been an increase of 5% in the number of companies in 2018.
The sector has a high degree of internationalization, since more than half of the production is sold in foreign markets, with more than 175 exporting companies, exported value reached 102 million euros in 2018.
