The mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz has highlighted the ability and perseverance of triathlete Abel Torreblanca as an example of improvement for young people

The Plenary Hall of the City of Caravaca de la Cruz has opened its doors to receive the caravaqueño Abel Torreblanca López, who was first in 800 meters and third 1,500 meters in the Junior World Championship of Paralympic Athletics, held at the beginning of August in the Swiss town of Nottwil.

The young triathlete has been received by the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, and the Councilor for Sports, Pepe Tudela, accompanied by students from the Municipal School of Triathlon and monitors Sebastián Abril and Francisco Aroca.

One of the ONCE athletes' trainers, Guillaume le Mouhaer, was also in charge of directing Abel's training before this World Cup.

"It is a pride for the people of Caravaca to have a world champion among us. Abel is a fighter and represents the values ​​of sport, so we have celebrated this act so that his testimony serves as an example of overcoming, companionship and perseverance among all the young people ", in the words of the mayor.

José Francisco García has also highlighted "the great work of promoting grassroots sport that is carried out from the municipal sports schools of the Department of Sports, in which Abel has begun his unstoppable sports career."

A total of nineteen athletes and six guides represented Spain in the Junior World Championship of Paralympic Athletics held in the Swiss town of Nottwil from August 1 to 4, nine of them being members of the Liberty Insurance Promises Team and the others ten belonging to the Spanish Federation of Sports for the Blind, among the latter was the caravaqueño.

Torreblanca López is also champion of Spain and has the minimum mark to participate in 400 meters in the under-17 category, reserved for athletes born in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Despite his young age, Torreblanca demonstrates daily what to do Sport and compete is possible for everyone.
