Climate change is an undeniable reality in all the latitudes of the planet;
There are more than 2,000 mobilizations that have been developed around the world, from September 20 to 27, denouncing the ecological crisis with a clear demand: to prevent the increase in global temperature by reducing CO2 emissions by 100% for the Year 2,030 under the principle of social justice.
The marches have attracted young people from all over the world, mobilizing more than 4 million people in more than 160 countries, a call only surpassed by the mobilization of last Friday 27, last day, in which the global climate strike was called as a culmination of an intense week of vindication and climate awareness.
Last Monday, September 23, the Climate Action Summit was held that gathered at the headquarters of the United Nations Organization (UN) in New York to sixty presidents and prime ministers, as well as representatives of cities committed to the fight against Global warming and big companies.
He has also had the presence of the young Swedish activist Greta Thunberg, awarded by the UN, who, at age 15, managed to remove consciences in the Swedish Parliament and in much of the world with his clamorous and bold speech in 2018. favor of the climatic action and its impulse of the global conversation on the warming of the Earth, with a very positive effect in the young people, especially in student movements.
It is a climatic emergency because of its gravity and because it is not just a problem for the future.
The causes and effects of climate change are here and not only related to distant spaces such as the Amazon rainforest, the melting of the poles, the rise in sea level or the plastic seas.
We have the problem here, closer than many people imagine.
Air pollution causes more than 800,000 premature deaths a year in Europe and shortens life expectancy by 2.2 years, on average, per person.
Without going any further, in Caravaca the highest levels of tropospheric ozone pollution in the entire Region of Murcia have been occurring but, as it is a colorless and odorless gas and the Autonomous Community does not disclose it, the majority of the population does not know it although suffer its effects.
It should also be noted the deterioration that has been occurring in the eco-systemic services that are the resources or processes of the natural ecosystems (goods and services) that benefit people.
To give another local example, it is alarming the great decrease in flow of the Taibilla river, tributary of the Segura that once allowed the urban and industrial expansion of almost the entire region and a good part of the province of Alicante and that, currently, due to the reduction of its precise flow of more contributions from the Tajo-Segura transfer.
To declare the climatic emergency requires that all political bodies and public administrations assume real commitments, much more ambitious than the current ones, with the appropriation of economic resources to face this crisis.
Therefore, the ecological transition and the promotion of the sustainable development goals of the UN Agenda 2030 is a priority for the socialists and a great opportunity for our country, our region and all our municipalities.
And for this reason, Pedro Sánchez has created the High Commissioner for the 2030 Agenda that, under the direct dependence of the President of the Government, is responsible for coordinating actions for the fulfillment of the 17 sustainable development goals included in said agenda, between those who find the elimination of poverty, the fight against climate change, education and women's equality;
and if in the Region of Murcia the PSOE governed, Diego Conesa would have already appointed, as promised, a commissioner with the rank of general director who would supervise the 2030 Agenda transversely to the government's action, in each and every one of the councils.
For our part, from the Socialist Municipal Group we understand that the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz should not be left out, and we have presented an urgent motion to the municipal plenary proposing the declaration of Climate Emergency so that our town hall, like many others Within the scope of its competences, assume the commitment to reduce greenhouse gases, abandoning fossil fuels, betting on 100% renewable energy, sustainable food, the circular economy and the reform of the mobility system, among others.
It is about moving towards a much more sustainable development, where, above the economic growth is the survival of the Planet including our closest ecosystems, on which we depend, which must continue to provide economic services, well-being and health for people.
