The association, composed of caravaqueños who were already part of it 30 years ago, will collaborate and promote cultural and heritage recovery projects
Coinciding with the feast of St. Teresa of Jesus, the Convent of the Carmelite Fathers hosted the constituent assembly of the refounded Cultural Association of St. John of the Cross and St. Teresa of Jesus of Caravaca de la Cruz.
The event was chaired by the mayor, José Francisco García, and by the Prior of the Discalced Carmelites and president of the association, Pascual Gil, who referred to the deep historical and spiritual ties that Caravaca de la Cruz has with the two saints Carmelites and representatives of universal mysticism.
Together with Segovia, it is the only city that appears between the foundations of San Juan de la Cruz and Santa Teresa de Jesús.
The PSOE spokesman, José Moreno, also attended the re-foundation act of the new association;
the spokesperson for Citizens, José Carlos Gómez;
the episcopal vicar, Jesus Aguilar;
the president of Carmelo Seglar, Joaquín Sánchez-Guerrero;
and the older sister of the Brotherhood of Vera Cruz, Mari Carmen López Navarro, as well as the dozen caravaqueños who are among the founding members and who were now part 30 years ago of this recovered association, whose general objective is to keep alive the spirit of the two saints of Teresian Carmel.
According to its statutes, the Cultural Association San Juan de la Cruz and Santa Teresa de Jesús de Caravaca will collaborate on projects that contribute to strengthen the presence of the work of these holy doctors of the Church.
It will also make proposals for the recovery of buildings and other heritage related to San Juan de la Cruz and Santa Teresa de Jesus in Caravaca and will promote issues related to literature, painting, sculpture, and music related to Mysticism , also paying attention to the promotion of tourism linked to the presence of both Saints in our city.
Three of the main objectives are to collaborate with the recovery projects of the House of San Juan de la Cruz and the monastery of San José (convent of the Carmelite mothers) and the creation of a monument dedicated to Saint Teresa of Jesus.
