Due to the start of the second phase of the restoration works of the parish of El Salvador, this week there will be a change in scaffolding that will affect road traffic.
Access through Plaza Nueva and 'Las Monjas' street will be rounded for approximately one month.
From the Department of Traffic and Public Safety, drivers will be informed of this incident due to works by signaling both access via Gran Vía and Puente Uribe.
"We apologize for the inconvenience this causes, but it is an important step in the recovery of heritage as a fundamental value for a historic municipality, tourist destination and pilgrimage, so we request collaboration and citizen compression during the coming weeks" , indicated the mayor, José Francisco García, after meetings that have been held with the direction of the works from the City Council.
The restoration works affect the south, east and north low facades of the church of El Salvador, declared of Cultural Interest (BIC).
The works are consisting of cleaning, consolidation of the stone and its protection.
Improvement interventions are also being carried out on cornices, window moldings, inscription tombstones and other figures.
This action is funded by the Camino de la Cruz Foundation, with the support of the Government of the Region of Murcia and the City Council of Caravaca de la Cruz.
The Parish Church of El Salvador dates back to its construction in the 16th and 17th centuries, being one of the most impressive and emblematic Renaissance temples of the Northwest Region and the Region of Murcia.
Over the years, natural and human elements have been deteriorating and wearing away the exterior of this church.
