This is another initiative launched by the Department of Environment and Animal Protection to promote awareness about abandonment and responsible animal ownership
In order to raise awareness about the responsibilities of having a pet, the City of Caravaca de la Cruz, through its Department of Environment and Animal Protection, has launched the campaign 'I am not a toy', starring some of abandoned animals that are waiting for a home.
The councilor who runs the area, Ana Belén Martínez, has stressed that this message needs to be more heated in society, since “especially on Christmas dates, there are people who choose to give an animal and this decision, if taken without to meditate and without consensus, it becomes one of the main causes of abandonment â€.
The mayor justified that each year "statistics show a high dropout at a few months of age and coinciding with the summer period."
The citizen awareness campaign has been disseminated in educational centers, veterinary clinics and in different public spaces, as well as social networks and in the media, through various applications.
The presentation was covered by one of the representatives of the voluntary association and animal protection 'Econciencia', Mireia Fernández, who stressed that “in case of deciding to take care of a pet, adoption is the best option, since there are many they are waiting for a home, like the ones that appear in the image of this campaign â€.
For its part, the veterinarian Gloria García said "if the animal is a gift, it must be taken into account that it is not an object or a fashion, but a living being that involves time of dedication, an expense and a series of responsibilities."
After the first Day of Canine Education and Responsible Keeping of Animals, this campaign is another of the initiatives launched by the Department of Environment and Animal Protection of the Caravaqueño Consistory to promote social awareness and prevent abandonment.
