The mayor, José Francisco García, and the Councilor for Sports, Pepe Tudela, have held a meeting with the director of 'La Vuelta Ciclista a Murcia-Gran Premio Sabadell', Francisco Guzmán, whose inaugural stage will take place on February 14 , with a goal on the esplanade of the Caravaca de la Cruz Castle.
After the meeting, they have exposed the details of the competition, together with Sabadell executives Gloria Abellán and Leonor Sánchez.
The mayor has indicated that it will be a very special sporting day, "since the two emblems of Murcian and Spanish cycling, Alejandro Valverde and Luis León, will once again measure their forces in an already classic confrontation on the roads of our Region."
In addition, José Francisco García has stressed that this initiative is part of the campaign to support the candidacy of the Wine Horses for Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
"An exciting stage finale, with the same promotion that the horsemen and the horse do in the race competition, something that we consider a great gesture of the sports world in a key year for the celebration."
Valverde has won the Home Tour five times - 2004, 2007, 2008, 2014 and 2017 - and Luis León has been the winner for the last two years.
'La Vuelta Ciclista Murcia' celebrates its 40th anniversary this year and its director has informed that this international sporting event will be broadcast live on the regional public television 7 Region of Murcia, which will give the signal to more than 180 countries.
