This case is the result of an agreement that was signed a few months ago with the International University of the Sea, dependent on the UMU, but which is also carried out within the general framework of the university extension headquarters. The details of the course have been presented by the mayor, José Francisco García; the vice-rector for Employment and Entrepreneurship at the University of Murcia, Alicia Rubio; the director of the Universidad Internacional del Mar, María José Portillo; the director of the course programmed in Caravaca, Mª Isabel Sánchez-Mora, and the future director of the Permanent University Extension Headquarters, the natural university professor of Archivel Ramón García."The contents are specially designed based on local reality, analyzing economic, social and cultural aspects, to enhance the many values ??and potential of Caravaca, something even more important at the present time when we must fight to reorient ourselves and look for opportunities" , has declared the mayor.José Francisco García thanked the University of Murcia for its total willingness to collaborate, making our important human capital available to us, which has allowed us to host these courses again years after the ones carried out by the Polytechnic of Cartagena. The director of the summer courses at the International University of the Sea explained that "this year we have created scholarships for those students who have been affected by the economic situation derived from the pandemic," recalling that enrollment is also open to people who are not University students who are interested in the subject. For her part, the course director explained that "the mayor contacted us a few months ago to try to revitalize and bring to light all that is good about Caravaca de la Cruz, such as its culture, its historical heritage, its artisan wealth, its culture, its tradition and its industry.
" Sánchez-Mora added that "professionals from the tourism sector, professors from the University of Murcia and those responsible for the regional administration, such as the director of the Institute of Tourism or director of the Roman Theater in Cartagena, among others, will be present at this course."Finally, the vice-rector for Employment and Entrepreneurship at the University of Murcia thanked the Caravaca City Council for opening the doors for this collaboration, and has had an impact on the free course for those students whose families have been directly affected by the economic crisis of the coronavirus.
Alicia Rubio has referred to all the educational and informative activities that she will offer in Caravaca through the University Extension Office starting in September, when the collaboration agreement is signed. The October course aims to provide attendees with knowledge of culture as a fundamental value of society and to deepen the tourism sector as a socioeconomic engine in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz. The different scheduled conferences and round tables address topics such as interior, cultural and religious tourism; the Jubilee Year; entrepreneurship in the tourism sector; the enhancement of the historical heritage; the value of traditions or education in culture. The course is open to the participation of high school students, university students and anyone interested in the subject, and the registration period is already open in:https://www.um.es/web/unimar/cursos-y-actividades/sedes/caravaca.Course programWednesday, October 709:00 h.
