Since June 19, a light travels, from backpack to backpack, traveling the French route of the Camino de Santiago as part of an initiative known as "The light of the Camino", which was devised by pilgrims Jesús Ciordia and Mariló López to pay tribute to those who died due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Motivated by this initiative, Manuel Lara Serrano, pilgrim from the Diocese of Cartagena, made the pertinent steps to join this tribute, with a pilgrimage that will travel tomorrow one of the stages of the Camino de la Cruz that goes from Bullas to Caravaca de la Cruz , a place of permanent pilgrimage.
"The intention of this pilgrimage is to launch a song of hope for the future, remembering the victims of the pandemic and highlighting the Way of the Cross, which is one of the riches of our Region of Murcia, and that, as a Christian, I believe that it offers a precious opportunity to meet oneself and the Lord, ”says Lara Serrano. With this Murcian initiative - popularly known as "The light of the Camino de la Vera Cruz" -, there are already three pilgrimages that are taking place this summer in Spain to honor the victims of Covid-19, since, last July 10, "The light of the Portuguese Way" left Porto to Santiago de Compostela, where it will meet the original initiative upon arrival at the Cathedral of Compostela. This morning, the priest José Alberto Cánovas, who has presided over the mass in the Santiago Apóstol chapel of the Episcopal Palace, has blessed the symbolic light that, joining the initiative of "The light of the Way", will make a pilgrimage to Caravaca de la Cruz.
The pilgrimage will depart tomorrow, at 7:00 a.m., from the parish of Our Lady of Rosario de Bullas to the Vera Cruz de Caravaca sanctuary, where, at 12:00 p.m., the celebration of the Eucharist will take place, coinciding with the arrival of the rest of the lights at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela."I encourage all Murcians to make a pilgrimage with us, in memory of those who, in many cases, could not count on the farewell of their family and friends," Manuel Lara tells pilgrims who want to join this initiative and who will be able to do so.
