The mayor of Caracas also thanked "the strong support that the Animal Welfare Board has obtained, with a prominent presence of stakeholders, while having words of special thanks to the volunteer association 'Econciencia', for the collaboration they have been giving the newly created Department in this City Council with the name of Animal Welfare ". Ordinance on the Protection and Responsible Ownership of Animals Ana Belén Martínez said that the ultimate objective of the ordinance is to "guarantee the welfare and protection of animals, avoiding situations of cruelty and mistreatment, lack of assistance, omission or neglect of care and unnecessary suffering, as well as preserving health, safety and tranquility of citizenship and protection of the environment ". The Department of Animal Welfare, in addition to preparing the draft ordinance presented at the table, has promoted another series of initiatives such as a protocol of action in cases of abandonment to guarantee zero sacrifice, awareness campaigns and canine education days, among others initiatives.
