The Councilor for the Environment in the Caravaca de la Cruz City Council, Ana Belén Martínez, accompanied the general director of the Natural Environment in the Autonomous Community, Fulgencio Perona, to the visit to the facilities. The mayor of Caracas thanked Caravaca de la Cruz for this important investment "because it is aimed at improving the protection of our greatest treasure, which is nature." He also recalled "that this same summer we were able to verify, with the fire that occurred in a place of high value known as 'El Cerro Gordo', the importance of rapid intervention and that professionals who fight fires have sufficient means and now with better facilities to control any outbreak that could trigger a catastrophe.
" For his part, the general director Fulgencio Perona has reported that "the surveillance point adapts to new needs and obligations in terms of health and safety of the personnel who carry out their work in them".
An investment has been earmarked for this, of which 63% comes from European Rural Development Funds EAFRD ". The reform of the fixed guard post of El Nevazo is one of the three projects for the improvement of the facilities for the prevention and fight against forest fires that will be carried out in the municipality of Caravaca de la Cruz, with investment of more than 670,000 euros, announced by the Government of the Region of Murcia.
In addition to the aforementioned, there is also an expansion of the Forest Fire Defense Center and the conditioning of the facilities of the La Alberquilla Forest Base.
