| The Ministry of Education and Culture is currently evaluating what method to carry out in cleaning the facades of this BIC | The Minister of Education and Culture, Esperanza Moreno, learned today, together with the mayor of Caravaca de la Cruz, José Francisco García, the restoration work carried out on the façade of the Basilica-Sanctuary of the Santísima and Vera Cruz.
This action is carried out by the City Council with a budget of 1.5 percent cultural from the Ministry of Development and the regional government will also collaborate with the cleaning of the facades. Currently, the General Directorate of Cultural Assets assesses which method to use to carry out this action, a task in which municipal technicians and those of the Historical Heritage Service participate.
In this regard, the counselor stressed that "we are in an Asset of Cultural Interest (BIC) and, therefore, it must be guaranteed that the actions for its restoration comply with all preventive conservation guarantees. The regional government has made various investments in this Basilica in recent years.
Thus, three years ago it was paid to make a three-dimensional model of the cover of the Sanctuary, its base and its columns from a 3D scanner and georadar, in order to fully know its state of conservation.
"This work allows that now it is possible to act with greater knowledge of the good and make the right decisions," Moreno said. "Caravaca de la Cruz is one of the neuralgic points of the historical, artistic and cultural heritage of the Region of Murcia", highlighted the head of Culture, who added that "the regional government promotes constant work to maintain this heritage that, often It goes unnoticed, but it allows all Murcians to know and enjoy our legacy ".
