Somos Juventud, the youth of the regionalist party Somos Regi n, files a complaint with the Caravaca City Council against the proliferation of uncontrolled landfills in the municipality of Caravaca. One of the serious problems faced by the residents of Caravaca is the existence of illegal dumping of urban solid waste.
We can find them in large numbers throughout the municipality, in urban areas and industrial estates, in forested, scattered and rural areas. Many roads, roads and abandoned parcels are also used to abandon waste of all kinds, garbage, clothes, dishes, tires, rubble or even electrical appliances are usually dumped anywhere.
This illegal practice, in addition to damaging the environment, damages the beautiful image of Caravaca and its landscapes, and of course, its tourist attraction, giving a bad image to those visitors who come to marvel at the history of this great city.
The existence of a free clean point is not enough to solve the problem, since unconvincing people, feeling unpunished, continue to leave waste in nature. To stop this situation, it is necessary to act to clean, remove, monitor and control public administrations, in addition to citizen collaboration to report situations they observe and educate our young people and older people to give them a greater environmental and social awareness.
The complaint that the youths of the regionalist party present, through the coordinator in Caravaca de Somos Juventud, Francisco Martínez Ruzafa, is covered by article 25 of the Law Regulating the Bases of the Local Regime, which collects the powers of the municipalities.
This article states: "For the management of its interests and within the scope of its competences, it can promote all kinds of activities and provide public services that contribute to satisfying the needs and aspirations of the neighbors.
" In addition,this article expressly includes the competence for "the protection of public health and the environment such as street cleaning services, waste collection and treatment" For all this, Somos Juventud requests the city council the following actions: That the government of Caravaca proceed to the cleaning and immediate removal of the uncontrolled landfills that, in the surroundings of the municipality, have already been denounced through the application L nea Verde de Caravaca de la Cruz and which appear as "solved or in process" have not been attended to at all. That the Caracas consistory undertake social awareness and environmental education campaigns in ALL neighborhoods and districts of the municipality aimed at using the clean point to deposit different waste. That the material and human resources of the Local Police be improved to monitor and punish offenders. That the municipal cleaning service be provided with the necessary human, material and budgetary resources so that the removal of these irregular discharges is included among its ordinary jobs, without having to open specific contracting procedures for their execution. That the regional government be urged to intensify controls and sanctions, promote citizen participation and increase the provision of material, human and budgetary resources for the protection of the protected natural spaces of the Northwest region. Somos Juventud and Somos Regi n hope that this situation will be remedied as soon as possible, for the comfort of the neighbors, to stop harming the environment and not to spoil the tourist image that Caravaca boasts. As it has been demonstrating since its birth, Somos Regi n is not alien to the problems that each municipality and district has, so we work, either inside or outside the institutions, to solve them.
That is the philosophy of Somos Regi n that we will always carry with us.
