The Department of Health of the City of Caravaca and the Foundation for Education, Health and Society has launched the Expert Patient Programme, a pioneering initiative in the municipality with which it aims to help people with obesity and prevent diseases caused by this problem.
The councilman of Health, Mercedes Velez, explained that this program is very positive for the prevention of long-term illness and that the key to their success lies in working the motivation and confidence of the patient.
"People interested in being part of this experience can inform the City Council to date has been formalized in writing up to 60 people," the mayor reported.
The working groups will consist of a maximum of 15 people, and attend the various sessions of the program in the morning and afternoon shifts.
The program, internationally accredited and successfully developed in over twenty countries, is aimed at patients, families, carers and professionals and its main objective is to promote self-care following the method of Chronic Disease at Stanford University United States.
Self-care has proven to be an efficient way to reduce health spending, helping to reduce the number of hospital admissions and emergency room consultations, and promoting more rational use of medication and an improvement in the relationship between doctor and patient.
