Italy is one of the top issuers of international religious tourism to the region
The Ministry of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment has organized a second trip familiarization with Italian operators specialized in religious tourism.
The 'famtrip', which began yesterday and will conclude on Saturday, will strengthen the dissemination of Caravaca Holy Year in Italy.
The general director of the Institute of Tourism, Manuel Fernández-Delgado, said today that this performance has allowed visiting the region five operators specialized in that product could not do last November.

These operators move together a volume of nearly one million pilgrims a year.
The itinerary will reveal the Santuario de la Vera Cruz, the 'True Cross' blood relic of Pope John Paul II and the convent of Santa Teresa de Jesus in Caravaca;
the Cathedral and the Episcopal Palace in Murcia;
Santa in Totana;
the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Hope in Calasparra;
the Fortress of the Sun, the Jewish Synagogue and museums in Lorca embroidery;
and the relic of the Holy Thorn in Mula.
Promotion Strategy
With this they are now four 'famtrip' that the Ministry has organized since late November, and are included in the promotion plan 'Jubilee Year Caravaca 2017', designed by the regional government in collaboration with local governments and entrepreneurs sector, which also shares such as fairs, presentations, 'workshops' and business contacts with more than 50 religious Italian tour operators are collected.
This plan seeks to position the region as one of the main destinations of religious tourism in Europe and multiply its presence in specialty catalogs.
The increased flows of international pilgrims attracted by the Holy Year 2017, Fernandez-Delgado said, "is a factor that directly favor the seasonal adjustment, the creation of stable employment and boosting the economy of the entire region."
Regarding the Italian tourism, during 2015 a total of 12,877 this country travelers stayed in hotels in the region, representing an increase of 8.9 percent over the previous year.
These tourists generated 29,624 overnight stays, 21 percent more than in 2014.
By region, 64 percent of these travelers stayed in hotels in cities (Murcia, Cartagena and Lorca), 24 percent on the Costa Calida and 12 percent remaining inside.
